Visa-free up to 21 days
Philippine passport holders enter Vietnam visa-free for stays up to 21 days. Your passport must be valid at least 6 months beyond your return date and have blank pages. No vaccinations are required; just keep routine shots up to date.
Money
Vietnamese dong (₫)
Cash rules for markets, taxis and street food; cards work in hotels, malls and larger restaurants. Tipping is not expected, but rounding up or ₫20–50k for guides and drivers is appreciated. Budget roughly ₱1,500–2,500 a day beyond your package for meals and extras.
Weather & what to pack
Warm and humid
Central Vietnam (Da Nang, Hoi An) is hot most of the year; the north (Hanoi, Sapa) is cooler and can be chilly from December to February. Pack light breathable clothes, a light jacket for the north, a rain layer, sunblock and comfy walking shoes.
Getting around
Grab is your friend
Use the Grab app for cars and motorbike taxis at fair, up-front prices. Cities are walkable, and your package includes airport transfers and a private coach on tour days. Avoid unmetered street taxis.
Language
Vietnamese; some English
English is understood in hotels and tourist spots but limited elsewhere. A few words go far: Xin chào (hello), Cảm ơn (thank you), Bao nhiêu? (how much?). Your English-speaking guide handles the rest.
Culture & etiquette
Dress modestly at temples
Cover shoulders and knees at pagodas and remove your shoes when asked. Ask before photographing people, keep your voice down inside temples, and use both hands when giving or receiving. Friendly bargaining at markets is normal.
Safety & health
Safe; mind the traffic
Vietnam is safe for tourists; the main hazard is crossing busy roads, so walk slowly and steadily. Watch for bag-snatching in crowds and stick to Grab or hotel taxis. Drink bottled water. Emergencies: police 113, ambulance 115.
Connectivity
Cheap local SIM or eSIM
Grab a Viettel or Mobifone tourist SIM/eSIM at the airport for fast, affordable data. Wi-Fi is widespread in hotels and cafés. Handy apps: Grab, Google Maps and Google Translate with Vietnamese saved offline.
